The skin is the largest organ of the body and covers the entire outer surface of the body. It is made up of three layers, the epidermis, the dermis, and the hypodermis, which vary significantly in their anatomy and function.

It constitutes a barrier between the organism and the external environment, protecting it against exogenous chemical and physical factors. It is the first line of defense against pathogenic microorganisms and ultraviolet light. Likewise, it participates in metabolic and immunological processes, performs a reabsorption and thermoregulation function. It plays an important cosmetic role, however, it is exposed to intrinsic and extrinsic aging factors.
