Cod Liver Oil 1000 mg, in the triglyceride form.
280mg of Omega 3?s + Vitamins A, D & E
The most important ingredients in cod liver oil are the Omega 3 fatty acids called EPA and DHA, and this one-a-day product from Lamberts® has higher levels of these two healthy nutrients than you will find in most shop-bought cod liver oil products. Lamberts® high strength cod liver oil capsules are manufactured in the UK in factories working to GMP pharmaceutical standards.
We use the highest grade of cod liver oil all available which is refined through a 5 stage purification process to remove the natural fishy odour and to ensure the oil is pure.
In addition to the Omega 3 content, our capsules also provide the recommended daily amount of vitamins A, D and E. There has been much in the press recently about the importance of vitamin D and it is possible that the traditional view of the health benefits of cod liver oil may always have been due, at least in part, to the vitamin D it was providing.
The established upper limit for vitamin A for adults is 1500ug according to the Expert Committee on Vitamins and Minerals of the Food Standards Agency published in May 2003. Considering this is calculated on an average of 700µg per day from food this leaves a recommended maximum from supplements of 800ug/day.
The Lamberts Cod Liver Oil contains 800 µg of vitamin A per capsule and so could be taken with a multivitamin low in vitamin A in the retinol form such as Fema 45+; or those which exclude vitamin A such as Multi-Guard ADR; Strongstart MVM; Multi-Guard Control or Maxi Hair.
A number of multivitamin formulas in the Lamberts range do contain a significant dose of vitamin A and so it would not be recommended to take Cod Liver Oil alongside these. In this case we would suggest consideration of Lamberts Fish Oil which contain robust levels of the fish oil active ingredients without running the risk of consuming too much vitamin A.
When calculating the amount of vitamin A you are getting from supplements, note that the upper limit only includes the retinol form, such as retinyl acetate or retinyl palmitate, not beta-carotene. We use the natural Vitamin A which is present in the Cod Liver Oil and then top it up with synthetic vitamin A to achieve our label claim. As this quantity varies according to the composition of the raw material it would not be a set amount.
