Cinnamon 2.500mg
Cinnamon Bark extract – cinnamaldehyde from 62%?73%.
There are two main types of this spice; Ceylon and Cassia cinnamon.
The cinnamon tablets that we produce contain a potent dose of Cinnamomum Cassia, which has been shown to have helpful properties, as supported by large clinical studies.
We use the correct species and the relevant part of the Cinnamomum Cassia plant, obtained from the tree bark (as opposed to the oil) which is principally responsible for cinnamon’s actions.
With regards to volatile components, the chemical composition of cinnamon essential oils depends on the part of the plant from which they are extracted. In bark essential oil, cinnamaldehyde is the most represented and this is what is used in the Lamberts extracts.
A standard water/ethanol extraction, known as Soxhlet extraction, means a content of cinnamaldehyde ranging from 62%–73%.
As a comparison when look at the raw material and compare the two major types of cinnamon, Cassia has a stronger flavour than Ceylon and 95% of its oil is cinnamaldehyde. Ceylon cinnamon is between 50–63% of its oil is cinnamaldehyde, which explains its mild flavour. So, the variety of raw material we use in Lamberts cinnamon extract has significantly more cinnamaldehyde.
We use a pure extract of high strength cinnamon bark, which should not be confused with culinary cinnamon. Our tablets are coated to be free of flavor (although they have a pleasant smell of cinnamon) and easy to swallow.
And just for additional information, we have customers ask about the coumarin content as it tends to be higher in Cassia. The pharmaceutical grade extract of cinnamon cassia we use is tested to ensure negligible coumarin content, so it does not pose any health concerns associated with a high coumarin intake. As with all our herbs, the product is made to the highest standards of purity and safety in GMP approved UK factories. Whilst all species of cinnamon will naturally supply some coumarin, we can confirm that our product contains less than 0.5% of these compounds.
Few companies produce all their herbal products in the form of extracts, but at LAMBERTS® we think it is essential to do so. Therefore, although the “whole herb” alternative sounds very good, it is simply the material of the dried plant, which will mainly provide fibre and few active ingredients (and this in case it can be digested). LAMBERTS® herbs are concentrated, soluble and are a guarantee of safety and efficacy.
