Earlier last year we heard about the calming effect of turmeric root extract on typical IBS symptoms such as frequent diarrhea and flatulence.

In a relatively short time, volunteers affected for many years observed remarkable effects on the symptoms they had suffered, in some cases, for more than 10 years. A current theory about IBS is that it is due to a low-intensity inflammation of the intestinal tract.

Since it is known that curcumin present in turmeric can inhibit inflammatory metabolites, the principal investigator at the University of Reading has developed the theory that current medications such as NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) can increase this problem, by inflaming and irritating the digestive tract, while turmeric has a positive effect.
