Glucosamine and chondroitin for diabetic

Could you tell me if a diabetic person can take glucosamine and chondroitin, or you can it raise your sugar?

R/ There is not conclusive studies but it has happened in some cases, so we do not recommend glucosamine alone to a diabetic person. Glucosamine Complete is a better option, however it should still be evaluated; and if not Chondroitin, rosehips..

Melatonin in 100 ml Lamberts® Cherry Concentrate

 

How much melatonin can contain 100 ml Cherry Concentrate Lamberts®?

R/ With regards to your enquiry, it is correct that sour Montmorency cherries, such as those used in Lamberts Cherry Concentrate, are a natural source of melatonin however we do not standardise this in our formula. As it turns out, the sour cherries do not work on the production of melatonin alone in its effects on sleep.

You may be interested in the following study led by Dr. Glyn Howatson in 2012, where 20 healthy volunteers were given 30 mL servings of Montmorency tart cherry juice concentrate for seven days and then compared to placebo. These participants demonstrated significantly increased time in bed, total sleep time and total sleep efficiency and that this was related to an increase in melatonin.

A later study in 2014 then which showed that two glasses a day of Montmorency cherry juice can ensure a better night’s sleep resulting in up to 90 minutes extra sleep time.

This paper specifically examined why tart cherry juice appears to have a greater effect in improving sleep than melatonin alone and they concluded that, besides the natural component of melatonin in sour cherries, there are other nutrients in the Montmorency tart cherry juice which also improves how the body uses tryptophan. This tryptophan is converted into serotonin and melatonin, which further improves sleep over several hours or even days.

Is Vitamin C fructose and sorbitol free?

I would like to know if the vitamin C you sell is fructose and sorbitol free.

A/ we have various vitamin C configurations in our range, from powdered to time-release capsules. The powdered vitamins Cs do not contain inactive ingredients (excipients). In general, the tablets that contain fructose or sorbitol are the chewable ones. LAMBERTS® details on its labels the active and inactive ingredients. As far as allergens, yes, the product contains some allergens, like soy. We indicate it on the label in “bold”. If it’s not detailed on the label that means it is not part of the product formulation. Pea Protein: Profile of Amino Acids

 

I would like to know the profile of amino acids contained in your pea protein as compared to other protein products, such as whey or hemp. Are there any differences regarding digestibility and absorption? Also would like to know if the reason why you only produce pea as protein powder is because it offers less potential to allergies. Finally, I know that powders are not to be used in cooking/heating, as they are very sensitive and can alter their structure. Is this the same for pea protein?.

R/ The profile of amino acids in the Lamberts Pea Protein may be found on the pot label and also on the Lamberts Española website.

Lamberts® Pea Protein is a highly concentrated protein product sourced from yellow peas. The extraction and purification processes raise the protein content from the normal level of 6% in fresh peas to 80% in this product. This unique process produces protein that is highly soluble and therefore easy to digest and absorb. We specifically chose peas as the source of protein because the amino acid profile is excellent as it is rich in ‘branched chain amino acids’ (leucine, isoleucine and valine) and is richer in arginine than any other commercially available protein. Arginine is involved in the immune system response to challenges and also plays a part in weight control.

Pea protein has many uses as it is free from wheat, gluten, dairy products, eggs, soya and animal products. It is unsweetened and has a mild savoury taste making it useful for mixing in to soups and stews. It can also be blended with fruit such as a banana to make a fruit smoothie.

Pea Protein in Lipoprotein-A- cholesterol

I wanted to share a response formulated for a customer who was concerned about Pea Protein increasing their Lipoprotein-A- cholesterol. This may be useful for you.

R/ Lipoprotein A concentrations have a tendency to be affected by disease states, (for instance kidney failure), but are only slightly affected by diet, exercise, and other environmental factors.

There is no scientific evidence which indicates, or even suggests, that Pea protein increases lipoprotein A levels.

If you are concerned about high levels of Lipoprotein A and wish to avoid consuming fish, you may wish to consider Lamberts Plant Sterols. We all have a good idea which foods are high in cholesterol but what is not generally known is that our body produces its own cholesterol which is secreted into the digestive system in the form of bile to aid the digestive process. In this way a huge amount of cholesterol is secreted and reabsorbed every day irrespective of the amount of cholesterol present in the food we are eating.

Plant sterols are useful because they block cholesterol from being re-absorbed from the gut into the bloodstream, and any cholesterol not absorbed is simply excreted. This is why diets high in plant sterols can help to control blood cholesterol levels, and why plant sterols are now added to some specialist margarines. Although plant sterols are naturally present in vegetable oils and grains, modern diets tend to be low in these important nutrients, and so it may be difficult to always achieve optimum levels from diet alone.

Each Lamberts Plant Sterol tablet contains 400mg of free plant sterols, with up to 80% beta-sitosterols. We quote the level of pure plant sterols, not the compound weight declared by some companies that may be only 50% sterols. This can make a useful contribution to our daily intake, without any unnecessary additional calories.

Is it advisable to continue taking StrongStart® MVM after giving birth?

R/ Personally I usually recommend to my patients to take it throughout the period of lactation even. If for some reason, there is not breastfeeding, continue taking a couple of months for a good recovery.

I am taking for menopausal symptoms Cimicifuga Racemosa, but the question I have is that I’m taking also Lutein, and I do not know if they are incompatible.

R/ There is no incompatibility. Eyewise, with lutein, zeaxanthin and antioxidants is a great product to protect vision.

R/ Thank you for your interest in the Lamberts range. We can confirm that the majority of the Lamberts range is gluten free, including Multi-Guard for Kids. Any major allergens, such as gluten, would by law need to be stated on the product label.

In Vitamin D 1000 UI, where does the modified starch?

R/ Modified starch means cellulose from a plant which has been heated to form a stable fibrous material which is used as a tablet binding material.  The plant we use is corn for all supplements containing modified starch including vitamin D.  Customers commonly misunderstand the word “modified” and wrongly assume it means “genetically modified” but this is certainly not the case!  Also, bear in mind this is simply inert cellulose starch, so has no know allergenic properties and is widely found in the diet.

Difference between Ester C and our Vitamin C time release

Can you explain me the difference between Ester C and our Vitamin C time release?

R/ Lamberts Ester-C 650mg is also described as calcium ascorbate. This product is fast absorbed and, according to the US patent holder, is well retained in the body. They furthermore state that the manufacturing process involved creates other compounds called ‘metabolites’ of vitamin C, which are believed to impart certain properties to Ester-C. They claim that this product is an improved form of the C vitamin because it is considered to be more bio-available that ordinary vitamin C, leading to higher vitamin C levels inside cells which stay in the body longer and less is excreted in urine. Lamberts were the first company to launch Ester-C in the UK, hence why it is still on our range, however feedback from practitioners state that they prefer the time release formula. Others state they find little significant change between the two when testing and so prefer the time release form due to the higher dose compared to price equation. What we do know is that Ester-C is non acidic (it has a neutral PH in solution), which means that it is certainly a very gentle form of vitamin C, which may be useful for those who experience intestinal difficulties when taking acidic forms of vitamin C. This is the same as for the forms of gentle vitamin C and calcium ascorbate.

The Lamberts Vitamin C time release formulas do not contain any calcium but are a high strength product designed for convenience that retains its nutrient levels in micropellets allowing them to be released slowly after the tablet has been swallowed. The absorption of vitamin C is a continuous process over 6 – 8 hours which allows the gradually absorption of vitamin C into the blood stream. It is recommended that Vitamin C is best taken in small amounts throughout the day because it is rapidly lost from the body. The time release formulas also contain bioflavonoid’s and rosehips that have been found to aid vitamin C absorption.

Origin of fishes of the Pure Fish Oil

About Pure Fish Oil 1100mg, the fish from which part of the world are they from?. Do you have detail of all 5 Stages Purification Process and Extraction Fish Method.

R/ The Lamberts Fish Oils are sourced from a range of different oily fish dependent on the season and availability and are not from farmed fish. We also sourced from seas all over the world, from where we can obtain the best quality. Sadly, due to human activity, no ocean is completely free from pollutants, but it is the highly sophisticated processing of fish oil which is important.

Lamberts insist on using premium grade fish oil which has undergone a sophisticated screening process to ensure that the oil is of the highest quality. Once the oil has been purchased, Lamberts use the least chemically-aggressive, solvent-free processes available to process fish oils that meet with strict quality control at all production stages.  The main features of the process include: (i) partial odour/bitter component reduction (ii) colour standardisation (iii) saturate reduction (cooling) (iv) secondary odour reduction (to reduce ‘reflux’ effects) and (v) filtration/molecular distillation to discard natural solid residues.

These tests include screening for a variety of contaminants such as aflatoxins, heavy metals, antibiotics, PCBs, dioxins, PAHs, irradiated ingredients and pesticides. We also add vitamin E to our fish oil concentrate to stabilize the oil and prevent them from oxidation. Furthermore, we hold minimal stock so that our products are freshly made. Enzymatic Activity of Pepsine

Which is the enzymatic activity of pepsine?

R/ Pepsin is one of three principal protein-degrading (a.k.a. proteolytic) enzymes in the digestive system so it helps with the breakdown and digestion of dietary proteins. I have attached a research paper with more information. Pepsin is porcine (pork) and Betaine is synthetic. Both are highest grade possible.

Enteric cover in capsules of peppermint oil

Can you explain me that why is not advisable the enteric cover in capsules of peppermint oil?

R/ The Peppermint oil capsule does not have the enteric coating of medicinal products and so dissolves in the stomach – not just in the lower intestine. It is designed to be anti-spasmodic and smoothing for the stomach and its effect is also active lower down in the small intestine.

Is pharmaceutical grade?.Yes.

R/ The Sea Buckthorn is a fatty oil extraction via Co2 extraction technique from the fruit. Co2 is one of the purest forms of extraction available and there is no pressing and no heat involved. The olive Oil in Omega 3,6,9 is cold pressed.

Premtesse & Magnesium forms

I have doubts. How is possible that the Premtesse tablets are so small compared with MagAsorb tablets if Premtesse have more Magnesium?.

R/ The clue would be in the form of magnesium.

So in Magasorb we use citrate whereas in Premtesse we use oxide. We always state the elemental magnesium in our formulas, so in this way Magasorb contains 150mg of pure magnesium and Premtesse contains 400mg of pure magnesium. This is the main difference as many competitors will cite the magnesium salt as the quantity and only few will cite the elemental quantity – for example one company cites.

Oral magnesium supplements combine magnesium with another substance such as a salt. Examples of magnesium supplements include magnesium oxide, magnesium sulfate, magnesium carbonate and magnesium citrate.

Elemental magnesium refers to the amount of magnesium in each compound. Figure 1 compares the amount of elemental magnesium in different types of magnesium supplements:

How to calculate the table: Mineral supplements are mostly salts – consisting of the cation (usually what you’re interested in) and an anion partner. Cations are positively charged; anions are negatively charged. You only care about the cation, and not the anion, so the anion essentially becomes a filler. Consider Magnesium Citrate. It has a molecular weight of 214.41 g mol. Magnesium has a molecular weight of 24.31. So Mg is 24/214ths or 11% Mg by weight. So every 100 mg of magnesium citrate has just 11 mg of useful Mg! Therefore you need a lot of Magnesium Citrate to make up 150mg of elemental magnesium found in Magasorb – hence the large tablets! Consider Magnesium oxide now. Molecular weight of 40.30, so 60% Mg by mass. 100 mg of magnesium oxide has 60 mg magnesium.

If you took Mg oxide with a meal (as we recommend for the Lamberts multi vitamins), you’d get a higher absorption. Citrate helps you absorb nearly all the Mg present, but it’s takes a lot of bulk to do so. Many people believe that 400mg of magnesium oxide – the whole salt – is a lot, but in reality only 8mg is actually absorbed. which is very little. As stated above our formulations only give the elemental value hence why we add the salt form as brackets alongside the word ‘magnesium’ in our technical catalogues.

Further to our own clinical testing conducted by Dr Sam Christie in a paper called ‘Mg citrate found more bio available than other Mg preparations in a randomised, double-blind study’ we added a Magnesium Citrate to our range alongside a Calcium Citrate product. The tablet size of these products are larger due to the citrate salt being a larger molecule and so for formulations where we need to feature magnesium or calcium alongside other nutrients we use the oxide or carbonate compounds.

The main use of magnesium oxide in our range is in Osteoguard and in our multi vitamins where we need to fit in many ingredients. Data to support these uses includes a 2006 study which specifically demonstrates the effectiveness of magnesium oxide on bone mineral content: ”A randomised controlled study of effects of dietary magnesium oxide supplementation on bone mineral content in healthy girls” (Clin Endocrinol Metab. 2006). Magnesium Oxide is a safe and tolerated source of dietary magnesium. One of the earliest uses in medical intervention spans from 1810 when magnesium oxide was used to treat patients with uric acid stones. A 2007 article published in the Archives of Biomedical Biophysics cites numerous studies to suggest magnesium oxide intake as a treatment for hypertension. More recently, the University of Maryland Medical Centre has stated that magnesium oxide may be used to restore magnesium levels, may allay migraines, high blood pressure and also assist in the treatment of arrhythmia.

However if the practitioner needs to address a magnesium deficiency quickly, then we would recommend magnesium citrate over magnesium oxide.

R/ Concentrated cherry and Granada are similar and base their actions mainly anthocyanins and bioflavonoids. However, Cherry usually rather inflammatory joint (like the bramble) and those of Granada, act rather in the circulatory system and heart.
